Buster's Book Club
Buster's Book Club aims to encourage children to read at home every Wednesday night. Depending on your child's year group, there is a target for how much time should be spent reading:
Year R and 1 - 10 minutes
Year 2 and 3 - 15 minutes
Year 4+ - 20 minutes
Please feel free to introduce a range of reading activities to your children as the reading target can be met in a variety of ways. You could try listening to an audio book, reading to your child or encouraging them to read a magazine or newspaper etc. For ideas, please refer to your child's Reading Bingo Challenge.
Buster's Book Club is also an excellent way to inspire team work across the school. There are certificates and badges up for grabs for individuals each week, along with a trophy which will be awarded to the class who reads the most minutes collectively, has the most children meeting or exceeding their targets or for classes who are most improved.
We are also working as a team to win prizes in district, county and national competitions. Frequently, we go up against different schools in the country to win some incredible prizes, including: celebrity visits, free performances being put on at our school, free tickets to some incredible attractions and much much more!
Classes also have their own class targets to meet. The children of each year group have decided which prizes they would like to win when they reach a certain amount of minutes read. Some of these prizes are water fights, teddy bear picnics, parties etc.
Thank you so much for continued support to make this initiative such a success at Luddenham School!
