A Letter from H.M. The Queen!

As part of the commemoration of the Queen's becoming Britain's longest reigning monarch, a letter was sent on behalf of the children telling the Queen that they had been learning about the monarchy in history, and also congratulating her on this historic occasion. And we have received a reply ....

We shared it with the children on Monday, and we thought you would like to see it, too!

(A transcript is below the letter, as it is a little difficult to read)

To: The Children of Luddenham Primary School and Mrs C Slater

The Queen wishes me to thank you all for the message you have sent on the occasion of Her Majesty becoming the longest reigning Monarch in British history.

The Queen was interested to hear that you have been learning about the history of The Monarchy, and Her Majesty greatly appreciated your kind words.

The Queen is very touched by the support, affection and loyalty she has received from the people of this country and the Commonwealth throughout her long reign, and thanks you very much for thinking of her at this time.

Luddenham School was founded as a Dame School in 1850 till March 6th 1871. In consequence of the passing of the Education act it was thought desirable to place the school under Government, and a committee was formed for that purpose. In 2012 the school took an additional step forward and converted to an academy.

When Luddenham first opened there were just 43 children in a single room. In the 50's the numbers fell to 23 and the low roll brought the threat of closure. Today Luddenham welcomes more than 200 pupils through the gates as a one form entry school. To accommodate the increased numbers, the school site has changed over the years with new buildings and an expansion of the school field.
